TRINITAS CHAIRPERSON OF THE BOARD RECEIVES HONOR
United Hospital Fund bestows Distinguished Trustee Award
Maureen Shaughnessy, SC, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Trinitas Health & Trinitas Regional Medical Center and past-immediate General Superior of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, based in Convent Station, New Jersey, was the recipient of the 2011 United Hospital Fund Distinguished Trustee Award in June.
Sister Maureen has distinguished herself in leadership positions within Sisters of Charity-sponsored medical institutions in New Jersey and Connecticut. As the Chairperson of the Trinitas Health and Trinitas Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Sister Maureen presides at all meetings of the Board including the Executive Committee and the Nominating Committee and appoints all committees and their chairs.
While serving on the Board of Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, Sister has been instrumental in directing its expansion, including the opening of the Trinitas Comprehensive Cancer Center in 2005 and the renovation of a patient care unit in 2007 for those suffering from cancer and other serious illnesses. During her term on the Board, Sr. Maureen has encouraged the advancement of Trinitas into the 21st century through its investment in the da Vinci robotics surgical system.
Sr. Maureen has also fostered a vision to create, enhance, and expand the hospital's 10 Centers of Excellence. These include the Behavioral Health & Psychiatry Department, recognized as one of the finest hospital-based services of its kind in the state, and the Trinitas School of Nursing which recently graduated the largest class in its 120-year history and is currently a National League of Nursing Center of Educational Excellence through 2015. With her dual leadership role on the Board of the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station, New Jersey, and that of Trinitas Regional Medical Center, Sister has fostered a partnership between the two entities that has created academic opportunities for Trinitas employees to pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing and health care management in a dynamic thriving cohort.
