I am honored to announce that the Board of Trustees of Trinitas Health
and Hospital resolved to name the building which houses the Trinitas
Comprehensive Cancer Center in honor of the late Andrew H. Campbell. The
entire five-story building will now be known as the
Andrew H. Campbell
Pavilion.
I am sure that many of you remember Andy, who served as Chairman of the
Board of Elizabeth General Medical Center in the late 1990's, and later as
Chairman of Trinitas Health and Hospital. He was the Vice Chairman of the
Board of Trinitas Health and Hospital when he passed away recently.
Andy was characterized by many things, including his business skills,
knowledge of the healthcare environment, friendly nature, and his laugh. I
prized all of his contributions, but I think I will most miss his ability to
confront any situation with optimism and humor.
Andy served as Chairman of Elizabeth General Medical Center at a unique
moment in time when that hospital was heavily involved in consolidation
discussions with St. Elizabeth Hospital. His commitment to our organization
was unwavering, and was demonstrated in part by his willingness to serve as
Chairman of the Board during the years immediately following the creation of
Trinitas. Fundraising leadership was another of his many attributes, one
that proved key to the success of the Trinitas Health Foundation's "Together
For Life" capital campaign, which he served
as Co-Chair.
I can say with confidence that the level of care that is now being provided
to the residents of Elizabeth and Union County has reached new heights as a
direct result of Andy's exceptional leadership, courage, wisdom and vision
for a better future.
Andy's many efforts on behalf of Trinitas was recognized by the New Jersey
Hospital Association, which honored him as "Trustee of the Year"
in 2006.
He also dedicated time and energy to a number of other causes that reflected
his concern for his fellow human being. Among those organizations were the
Pingry School, United Way, Wells College, First National Bank of Central
Jersey, and Family & Children's Services.
Trinitas Regional Medical Center was truly blessed by his spirit of commitment. The naming
of the newest building on our campus as the Andrew H. Campbell Pavilion is
an extremely fitting tribute to Andy as a man of great stature in
our
community.
Sincerely,
Gary S. Horan, FACHE
