Women's Imaging Center
The Women's Imaging Center at Trinitas Hospital was created to focus on
meeting the special health care needs of women in our community.
Our new, technologically advanced, FDA-approved and MQSA (Mammography
Quality Standards Act) certified facility provides the services -
mammography, stereotactic needle biopsy, ultrasound and bone densitometry -
that are essential in addressing women's concerns.
The staff in the Women's Imaging Center has had specialized training in this
field. They will work with you and your physician to provide services in a
comfortable and professional environment.
At The Women's Imaging Center we don't just perform procedures; we provide
our patients with the information they need to manage their health.
Mammography
Mammography is one of the easiest, safest, and most reliable procedures for
examining the breast. It is a procedure that has become an integral part of
a women's healthcare regimen.
Screening mammography is an X-ray exam of the breasts designed to detect
breast lumps when they're too small to be detected by physical examination.
These small lumps can indicate early-stage breast cancer. Size of the cancer
at the time of diagnosis is one of the most important predictors of outcome.
Screening mammography can lead to the finding and treatment of breast cancer
in its earliest and most curable stage—nearly one to three years before you
might actually feel the lump in your breast
Stereotactic Biopsy
If a radiologist detects an abnormality in your breast tissue, a biopsy may
be needed. A stereotactic biopsy uses x-rays and computer imaging to
localize areas of concern and extract a small sample of tissue for analysis.
This nonsurgical procedure is completed on an outpatient basis with a
minimum of discomfort and recovery time.
Ultrasound
The Women's Center at Trinitas also performs diagnostic ultrasound imaging.
Ultrasound is used for imaging various organs in the body and is also used
for ultrasound guided breast biopsy. Ultrasound guided breast biopsies are
performed when x-rays are unable to visualize an area of the breast that
needs a biopsy procedure. Ultrasound is a painless procedure that uses no
radiation.
Bone Densitometry (photo "Bone Densitometry")
Bone densitometry is a procedure used to diagnosis osteopenia and
osteoporosis, both of which are conditions resulting from loss of bone mass.
Special measurements are taken of several areas of the body, usually the hip
and spine, and are then analyzed using special computerized software.
